The Official Biography of: Winston S Churchill:
Randolph Churchill had for some time wanted to write the official biography of his father, Winston S Churchill, and during the 1950’s made every effort to obtain his fathers permission. In 1960, on having read Randolph’s biography of Lord Derby, Winston gave his permission for him to proceed, but only after his death. The first Volume “Youth” was published in 1966, the year Churchill died. Randolph published the first two volumes before he died in 1968, so his research assistant Martin Gilbert was given the title “official biographer” and finished the work.
The Biography runs to 8 main volumes [coloured jackets] published between 1966 and 1988 with an additional 13 companion volumes [white jackets] published between 1967 and 1982:
